About Our Club

Stan Blazek of Utica founded the EARTH Club somewhere around 1990. Stan sold all major brands of detectors from his home and got to know many of his customers that were into detecting, along with many others just starting out, looking for guidance. With all this interest, plus the fact that there were no other clubs in Central New York, Stan got the idea of forming his own. During the first 6 years, there was no formal meeting place; members took turns holding gatherings at their homes and on occasion even outside. As attendance grew, the need for a permanent facility was eventually realized.

Even though the club was "founded" in 1990, the first "official" meeting wasn't held until March of 1996. That first historic meeting was held at Post 229 in North Utica. Within a few months, the Dunham Library site was secured, and meetings have been held there on the last Monday of the month ever since. Membership back then was approximately 35, but has since grown to over 70 members.

If you would like to be a guest at one of our meetings, you can contact Stu Copperwheat at 315-822-5462, or simply show up at the Dunham Library in Whitesboro, NY at 7pm on the last Monday of each month. The time and location of the meeting occasionally changes, so check the “Monthly Meetings and Hunts” page of this website for the most up-to-date meeting information.
